Many children dream of competing in the Olympics.
Few make it. Even fewer win a medal.
Is that the only reward?
In a world where winning and endorsement deals
take centre stage, three-time Olympian Leah Pells reminds
readers of the power of sport and the Olympic dream itself.
For some athletes, it’s simply not about the medal.
After just missing a bronze by a half-second
in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta,
Leah was thrilled, not disappointed.
For her, the Olympic dream symbolized more than a ranking—
but a triumph over a tumultuous upbringing in
a single-parent home of an alcoholic.
From Olympic highs to personal lows,
Leah speaks bravely about a widespread disease
while delivering a message of hope.
Turning hardship into inspiration, she also shows readers
how to lead a life of Olympic proportions
no matter what your beginnings.
She is a true champion—medal or not.

clearly written, painful story of a world class track athlete's horrible upbringing, her survival and achievements. Leah writes with sincerity and amazing restraint considering the graphic nature of her childhood. Although painful to read i found it cathartic(as it appears the author does as well) and eye opening regarding her explanation about the titles theme. A great read for runners and non-runners alike. Was expecting a running book but got much moreProduct details

Not About the Medal edition by Leah Pells Robyn Matthew Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
Purchased the ebook version as paper copy hard to get in our area and needed it for our bookclub. Story is not about the sports aspect but about life with an alcoholic parent. Excellant story.
Great Book. Such an amazing story. Thank you Leah for sharing your life Story. Some parts were very hard to read yet the forgiveness you showed to your Mom and others was most inspiring. We all thank you. Can't wait to see a movie about your story some day.
A true story about someone I know. Made more of an impression on me than her substantial athletic achievements. Life is hard enough as it is, to overcome what she did and reach the goals she set, amazing. Even more important, this story is told in typical Leah Pells manner, as if you were sitting there with her at the table. One of the books that moved me the most in the past few years.
